A report by Faiqa Isaa, a BSc. in Nursing Sciences student

“Our College was more than just a building…
It was a small homeland that brought us together through dreams and knowledge, through hard work and success, through laughter in the middle of lectures, and staying up late for exams.

But the war…

War didn’t differentiate between stone and people. The labs where we spent hours researching and learning were destroyed. The library , once a quiet place filled with books and hope, was reduced to rubble. The halls that witnessed the beginning of our academic journey had their walls shattered, their seats disappeared, and even the echo of our voices was gone.

Not a single corner was spared… Even the small halls, even the places where we used to rest between lectures, have all become ruins. We walk through the same place we used to dream of, but today we find nothing but silence, dust, and heartbreaking memories. But despite the destruction…

We still have hope, and we still dream of a safe homeland, and a college that can teach again and rebuild minds. We still believe that knowledge is stronger than war, and that one day, we will rebuild…stone by stone…. a dream”

This video documents the impact of the ongoing conflict, started on 15 April 2023, on Comboni College of Science and Technology (CCST) and Comboni Italian Center (CIC) and highlights the challenges faced by students and educators to continue academic activities during these two years of war. The war continues but also CCST and CIC continue providing education and care to the Sudanese youth and society.
